Welcome to the Rugby Section

Pwllheli Rugby Club's first ever rugby match was played in September 1972, although the game had been played for many years before that in the Grammar School. It was the late Len Humphreys who got things moving following a game between Pwllheli Grammar School Old Boys and Harlech Rugby Club in 1971. If the Club was to have any chance of developing at all a permanent home had to be found. The idea of combining the rugby and cricket sections to form the Pwllheli Sports Club took off and a site was found in Efailnewydd, due mainly to the generosity of the late Anthony Jones, Penmaen. Located on the outskirts of the village the site was developed and has gone from strength to strength boasting the best playing condition not only within Gwynedd but also further afield. It is the home of not only rugby and cricket but also ladies hockey and junior football.

Wil Bing has collected a lot of material over the years and was kind enough to lend several boxes full of photos, programmes and other material which has been used on the site. Individuals have also contributed with all kinds of material and they are credited in the appropriate place within the site. There are many gaps waiting to be filled however.

This is where you can help. If you have any material which would be of interest please get in touch so that it can be included on the site. Click on the 'Contact' tab at the top of this page. You are also welcome to contribute to the 'Guestbook' - link is also at the top of this page.
